Using Safe Hair Color

Changing the way you look doesn’t necessarily entail the use of toxic chemicals. Choosing to use a safe hair color, or even the revolutionary natural or organic hair colors available today, will go a long way in achieving your beauty goals while preserving your health and wellness. It is entirely possible to use organic hair color in order to come up with the best possible look for you without endangering your health or that of your hair.

Safe Hair Colors and Natural Alternatives

You don’t need to buy expensive hair colors when, for example, lemon juice might be all you need for certain applications. Adding some water to freshly squeezed lemon juice will give you a dye that you can gently rob into your hair. The longer your hair, the more lemon juice you are going to need. If you will repeat this procedure for a certain amount of time, say, two or three weeks, you will have achieved a natural highlighting and will have even gotten rid of dandruff.

Safe hair color should be taken seriously, and henna is also a good hair coloring ingredient that safe to use, and that will color your hair naturally. Since henna is for red shades, either blondes or brunettes can use it to add red highlights to their hair. Henna in powder form is readily available in stores that carry products for the hair. Mixing henna with the amount of water recommended on the package will form a paste. After applying it, leave it on for a few hours before washing it off. Make sure that you use pure henna – that is, without any additional chemicals added to it.

Black tea can be used or added if you have or desire to have darker colors. Black tea should be added and rinsed over and over again – up to 10 times. Always leave it on for 10 minutes – this should be easy to remember. You need to exercise some patience with this procedure, but you will end up with naturally colored hair that’s perfectly safe to boot.

Using Safe Hair Colors While You’re Pregnant

If you happen to be pregnant, follow these rules:

- Don’t let hair color contact your scalp – also avoid using a single dye, because a single dye is going to get down to the roots of your hair.
- Don’t use hair dyes that have chemical elements in them – use dyes that come from vegetables and henna. These can be used even during your pregnancy without fear of damage to your health. The key is natural ingredients.
- If you happen to be pregnant, do consider the use of temporary hair colors. These are safe hair colors. However, when they are applied using a pencil or a mascara wand, they will not stay in your hair beyond your next shampoo.

Still Concerned About Safe Hair Color?

If you are concerned about safe hair color, be advised that hair dyes are not regulated. Cosmetic products are, but not hair dyes. Doing highlights is less likely to do you any harm, as those do not get down to the roots of your hair. If, on the other hand, you want to go beyond mere highlighting of your hair, then you should definitely study what you buy in order to avoid chemicals that might do damage to both your hair and your health. Don’t buy anything that’s not free of added odors or the like.
